Marian Fortune Obituary

Marian J. Fortune

Brevard - Marian J. Fortune, age 79, of Brevard, died Wednesday May 2, 2012. She was born May 31, 1932 in Buncombe County to the late William Fletcher Fortune and the late Cora Whitaker Fortune. In addition to her parents she was preceded by two half-brothers, Robert H. Jenkins and Warren Fortune.

Ms. Fortune was a Physical Education Teacher for the U.S. Department of Defense School for American Dependents serving eight years in Germany, four years in England and at Elon College. She also was employed with Dr. Glen McPherson here in Brevard, White Water Gardens and was a Life Time Member of The Girl Scouts of America. She was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville and The Women's College of the University of North Carolina where she received her Masters Degree in Physical Education. She also did post-graduate work at the University of Texas in Austin.

Survivors include one nephew, Ronald Jenkins of Leesburg, Fla.

No services are scheduled at this time.

I was fortunate to have known Marian for the past 30 years. She was such a kind and delightful person. She will be missed.
