FLETCHER - Morris Walker, 78, of Fletcher, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at The Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Home on Sweeten Creek from complications from Parkinson's disease.

He was born in Fletcher on Howard Gap Road on Jan 14, 1934 and was the son of the late Burgin O'Donald and Este Doan Walker.

He attended Fletcher Elementary School and graduated from Fletcher High school where he was a star member of the baseball team. After serving time in the US Army he returned home and became employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. as a warehouse worker and delivery truck driver where he retired after 40 years of service.

He was an avid outdoors man, loved gardening and lawn work. He also loved to fish and deer hunt. He loved to travel, having made several trips to Israel with his recently deceased pastor, Rev. Lawrence Rhodes and church family of Hoopers Creek Baptist Church of which he was a member and had served as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 ½ years, Doris Trantham Rector Walker; sons, Rev. Donnie Walker, and his wife, Karen, of Fletcher, Darrell Walker and his wife, Linda, of Fletcher; daughter, Kathy Walker Lanning and her husband, Josh, of Fletcher; stepdaughter, Nancy Rector VanWeel and her husband, Kevin, of Westfield, Indiana; stepson, David Rector and his wife, Leah, of Irmo, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jenny, Mandy, Michael, Chad, Justin, Jesse; stepgrandchildren, Christian, Connor and Melissa; great grandsons, Caleb and Adian, great granddaughter, Bailey; step-great grandchildren, Destiny and Joshua.

The family wishes to give a very special thank you to Barbara Creasman and all the employees at The Oaks Nursing Home and to the family of the Fletcher Plaza Restaurant.

A funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Hooper's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Waldroup, Rev. Donnie Walker, Rev. David Gentry and Rev. Phillip Youngblood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Patty's Chapel Cemetery.
