Nebo - Rev. Phil M. Edwards, 80, of Nebo, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 while at Memorial Campus-Mission Hospital in Asheville. Born January 30, 1932 in Lake Worth, Florida, he was a son of the late Clarence Raymond Edwards and Esther Alice Menoher Edwards. He was born from above at 9 years of age. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Archie Edwards and Donald Wade Edwards.
Surviving Rev. Edwards are his wife, Elsie, of the home; step-children, John (Barbara) Gould, of Lady Lake, FL., Judy (Richard) Whitehead, of Mayflower, AR, Susan Hinson of the home and Loretta (Randy) Turner of Howell, MI. along with 11 step-grandchildren, one great-grand son; sisters-in-law, Alice Widdifield of Aurora, CO. and Jean Edwards, of Salina, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Edwards was in the pastorate and in youth and music ministries with the Wesleyan Church and the Church of God (Anderson, IN.) for ten years, serving in Lima and Cincinnati, Ohio, Black Mountain, Morganton and Concord, NC. He also worked in the insurance business and Christian broadcasting, retiring from Blue Ridge Broadcasting Corp (WFGW/WMIT-FL) in 1996.
Rev. Edwards was a lifelong "wannabe" musician, with a special interest in male sacred choral and quartet music. He was a member of the varsity male quartet, while attending Miltonvale Wesleyan College and Academy; he belonged to the Miltonvale Wesleyan College & Academy, Miltonvale, KS. And he also sang with a quartet at Kletzing College in University Park, Iowa and Marion College quartet - now Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 am in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Dr. Don Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
