Roger Allen Briggs

Hendersonville - Roger Allen Briggs, 72, of Hendersonville, died on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Pardee Memorial Hospital. He was born February 17, 1940, in Davidson County, NC, to the late Arlin Ivey and Paige Veasey Briggs.

He loved God and everything God created. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Virginia Faust, and a devoted father to his two sons, Michael Briggs and Byron Briggs. He had a special group of friends in Flat Rock that he cherished.

He was curious about the world around him and strived to learn all he could his whole life. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and camper, and loved to be on or near the ocean. He enjoyed photography, especially shooting and developing black and white film. He was his class photographer in high school, responsible for taking and developing many of the pictures in his class yearbook.

He enjoyed cooking gourmet meals and listening to classical music. He was a skilled carpenter and paid great attention to detail as he built two homes and renovated two others.

He graduated from Central High School in 1958, and earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University in 1962. He worked for the State of North Carolina as a planner for five years, and then went into private and group practice as a landscape architect. He had clients in the two Carolinas, and was especially proud of the work he did for the Veterans' Memorial in Columbia, SC. He concluded his career as the City Planner for the City of Hendersonville. One of his major projects was the memorial for Piedmont Flight 22. He retired in 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Cathedral of All Souls in Asheville. A reception will follow at the church.
