Rua Merle


Robbinsville - Rua Merle Aldridge, age 81 of the Tuskeegee Community of Graham County, passed away, Monday, April 21, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.

A native of Graham County, she was born October 11, 1932, the oldest of four children, to Howard and Julia Orr Carver. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Max Carver and his wife, Reba.

Merle was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Robbinsville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had been a volunteer at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was also a member of Extension Homemakers. Merle was a homemaker and she loved the Lord, her family, and her church. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, canning, freezing and cooking. Merle's kind, loving and generous spirit will be greatly missed.

Merle is survived by her husband of 58 years, Reverend Burlen Aldridge; daughter, Cheryl Ann Aldridge Beck and her husband, Steve, of Franklin, NC; sons, Jeffrey Aldridge and his wife, Barbara, James Aldridge and his wife Lori, all of Robbinsville, NC; grandchildren, Julia Aldridge Badalucca and her husband, Mike, Amanda Aldridge, Jesse Aldridge, Andrew Beck, Luke Aldridge, Hollie Aldridge; four great grandchildren, Destiny Aldridge, Skye, Ayson and Bladen Badalucca. She is also survived by her sister, Woodie Phillips and her husband, G.D; and brother, Don Carver and his wife, Patricia.

Funeral Services will be held at 7 PM Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Townson-Smith Chapel. The Reverends Lloyd Fish, G.D. Phillips, and Larry Grindstaff will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7 PM Thursday at the Chapel prior to the services.

Committal Services will be held at 2 PM Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Gunter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Phillips, Eric Phillips, Lindy Ammons, Joe Waldroup, Raymond Norton, and Ron Gentry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Carver, Wesley Carver, Dane Acord, Danny Acord, David Acord and Carroll Ensley.
