Biltmore Forest - Sally Elizabeth Smith of Westwood Road, Biltmore Forest, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 10, 2012, at home.
Sally was born on August 19, 1950 in Asheville and spent her first sixteen years in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Tatham.
Sally is survived by her husband, M. David Smith, III of the home; sister, Wanda Carneal and her husband, Darrell, of Raleigh and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are in-laws, Cheryl Bolick and her husband, Herb; Annette Guthrie and her husband, Joe; Steven Smith and Stuart Smith and his wife, Michelle McCann-Smith.
Sally graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1968. Her work career was with U.S. Air and Piedmont Airlines as a flight attendant and agent until 1989. She was an active member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence and a member of the Biltmore Forest Country Club. She loved helping people, especially the poor.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, DM, 97 Haywood Street. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the mass at the church. A private, family burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, c/o the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
