Candler - Thomas McCracken

Candler- Thomas Benton McCracken, 85, was "Returned to Sender"… Our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and Ethel McCrary McCracken. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. He was a United States Navy veteran having served in World World II. Thomas retired from the United States Postal Service with over thirty years of service at the Canton Post Office. Following retirement, he was employed at The Grove Park Inn as well as EDACO, Inc.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Martha Morgan McCracken; one son, Fred McCracken, of Asheville; two daughters, Janie Queen and husband, Max, of Candler, and Joanne McDuffie and her husband, James, of Swannanoa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Rick McCarson and Reverend Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to CarePartners Hospice as well as Care4U Homecare, and to two very special caregivers, Caleb and Sarah Queen. An additional expression of appreciation is extended to all of the wonderful friends and neighbors that have cared for Tom and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to donor's favorite charity.
