Twila Mae Sams
The Guest Book is expired.
Asheville - Twila Mae Sams, 74, left this world to be with her loving Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at the John F. Keever Solace Center.
A native of Del Rio, TN, she was the daughter of the late James Perry Self and Grace Sorrells Self Compton, and step-daughter to the late Arnold Compton. She was a life long member of the Arden Presbyterian Church.
Surviving is her husband of 51 years, Carl R. Sams; daughter, Tammie Sinnes (Chris) of Roanoke, VA; sons, Chuck Sams (Kelly) of Fletcher, and Joseph Sams of Charlotte; sisters, Christine McClaren (Bill) of Central, SC, and Verba Hawkins (John) of Candler; and three grandchildren, Matthew Sinnes of Bristol, VA, Andrew Sinnes of Blacksburg, VA, and Stephen Sinnes of Roanoke, VA.
Her kind heart and generosity were known to everyone that ever met her. She transcended her own troubles and poor health to always help others. Twila never met a stranger or someone in need that she wasn't willing to assist, and was blessed with a true gift of connecting with all people.
In her younger years, she enjoyed raising orchids and african violets, and also had a keen eye for antique furniture. She always enjoyed making a deal. Her unselfish love for other people and giving spirit will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Faith at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 1498 Sand Hill Road in Candler, with Rev. Ed Graham officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to assist the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School children who died this week. These donations can be made at: Sandy Hook School Support Fund
