WEAVERVILLE/ BEECH COMMUNITY - John Edwin Cook, age 92, of the Beech Community went to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Cook was born October 15, 1921 in Buncombe County. He retired from Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries and was a lifelong farmer. John was a US Navy veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific on the USS LST 1102. He was a lifelong member of Reems Creek- Beech Presbyterian Church. A son of the late Harley and Bonnie Ray Cook, he was also preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Rhea Cook who died in 2007; sisters, Kate Angel, Grace Holcombe, Justine Nesbitt, and brother, Duain Cook
Surviving are his daughters, Martha Cook and Janet Bost; sons, Steve Cook and wife Penny and Jeff Cook and wife Donna; sisters, Mary Dean Davis, Alice Zikewich and husband Joe and Betty Owenby; sister-in-law, Hilda Cook Cash; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Jay Rabuck and Rev. Brian Hanrahan officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans section of West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
