Raleigh - Frances Wyckoff Kennickell, a loving matriarch, passed away on February 9, 2014 at the age of 92 at Hospice House in Raleigh, NC. Born October 28, 1921 in Wilmington, NC, Frances married Herman ("Mac") McGolrick Kennickell on October 16, 1941. Mac was a US Navy line officer from Fairview, NC, who was her classmate at Mars Hill College. He went on to ordination as an Episcopal priest and continued his military service as a US Air Force chaplain.

The couple lived in many locations, with Frances freely giving of her skills in community endeavors wherever they lived. For most of her later years, she was a very active resident of Asheville, NC.

Frances was a devoted volunteer with the Asheville-Buncombe County Christian Ministries (ABCCM), providing food, clothing and other material support to underprivileged residents of Asheville and outlying communities. She also freely gave of her talents as a docent and hostess at Billy Graham's Cove at Black Mountain for several years.

A woman of many artistic talents, Frances was an avid quilter who participated in many crafts groups in and around Asheville. She was a gifted artisan who delighted in sharing her creative pursuits.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Mac Kennickell, Jr., her father and mother, Frank Carrick Wyckoff and Lucy Jeter, and two younger brothers, Robert Carrick and Fred Orlando. Frances left behind three children, Ann Kennickell Hester of Charlottesville, VA, David Kennickell of Raleigh, NC and Jonathan Kennickell of Glenwood Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Leah Beckner Crisp of Sylva, NC, Karen Hester Dawes of Crozet, VA, Patrick John Hester of Stanardsville, VA, and Sarah Hester Thorston of Denver, CO and four great-grand children, Elizabeth Haynes, Aurora and Hudson Dawes, and Margaret Ann Thorston.

A memorial service will be held in her honor 11:00 am, Saturday, February 22 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 60 Church Street, Asheville with the Reverend Carol Hubbard officiating.
