Officer Jason M. Crisp

Marion - Jason M. Crisp, loving and devoted husband, father, son and friend to many, lost his life in the line of duty along with his canine partner, Maros, on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Jason was an Officer with the U. S. Forest Service and was a former Sheriff's Deputy with the McDowell County Sheriff's Department. A more honest and dedicated officer would be hard to find and Jason exemplified the motto "To Protect and Serve" not only in his work life but in his personal life as well. A graduate of McDowell High School, Jason worked at Columbia Carolina while in school and for a period of time following school before finding his true calling in law enforcement. After an eight year stint with the Sheriff's Department which began in 1997, he transferred to the U. S. Forest Service in 2004. Jason loved his Lord and his church family and was a faithful member of West Court Baptist Church. He enjoyed being outside, working with his dog or fishing. Jason was loved by many and all who knew him will miss him dearly.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 18 years, Amanda Dicks Crisp; two sons, Garett and Logan Crisp, of the home; his father, J. P. Crisp of Marion; his mother, Elaine DiGirolamo Tangeman of Duncan, SC; his sister, Shari Crisp of Morganton; three brothers, Bryon Crisp and his wife Elisabeth of Marion, Eric Crisp and his wife Julie of Marion and Tim Rudisill and his wife Bethany of Greensboro; a niece, Eleni Zenteno and three nephews, Payton, Matthew and Bryson Crisp.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the McDowell High School Gymnasium with Rev. Ross Lewis and Rev. Charles Dicks officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at West Court Baptist Church. Memorials, to benefit their children, may be made to Amanda Crisp at the State Employees Credit Union, PO Box 8, Marion, NC 28752. Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.
