Asheville - Grace Johnson Land, 90, of Asheville, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at JF Keever Solace Center.
Grace was born in Wake County to the late William R. Johnson and Pattie Hobgood Johnson Askew. She was a first-grade teacher at Haw Creek Elementary School for 33 years, was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville and a long-time member of Esther Chapter #12, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Jack Land; son, Jackson Land (Diane) of Saluda; daughters, Jeanette Christian (Cliff) of Asheville and Karen Walker (Tim) of Weaverville; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a brother, Raymond Johnson (Emma Lou) of Cary, NC.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Asheville. Rev. Eddie Morgan and Rev. Leah Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.
A private burial will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Childrens Ministry, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC, 28801.
