Asheville - John Thomas Donohue III, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014. He was born September 26, 1943 in Atlanta, GA and was raised in Delaware. Mr. Donohue graduated high school from Archmere Academy in Claymont, DE. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1961 and entered the United States Air Force where he served for four years. He worked in the public school system in North Carolina, Dealware and Georgia with an emphasis on Special Education. During this time he received advanced degrees in education. Mr. Donohue taught in three maximum security prisons. He finished his teaching career at Swannanoa Valley Youth Detention Center when he was severely injured while teaching.
Mr. Donohue was of the Catholic Faith. He enjoyed traveling, bridge, and classes at the Senior Center in Asheville as well as volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, River Link, and the Knight of Columbus in Georgia. But, most of all he loved being with his family.
Mr. Donohue is survived by his wife, Carolyn Donohue, who he called "the love of his life"; his daughter and son-in-law Emily and John Swift; his four grandchildren John, Lily, Flora, and Paul Swift; his sisters Patricia Bowhall, Joan Hobbs and her husband, Randy, Fran Sailer and her husband Charles, and his brother Matthew Donohue and his wife Nancy. Mr. Donohue is also survived by four nieces and one nephew.
