Asheville - Former Kalamazoo resident and music teacher, Mary Ruth Robinson died Tuesday April 29th, 2014 in Asheville NC. She is survived by her long time companion Edward Hunting of Gerton, NC, her sister, Nancy Woodruff of Mosinee, Wisconsin, her brother, James Robinson of Litchfield Park, Arizona, along with other family and close friends.

Mary was born in Sturgis Michigan on August 6, 1944, the daughter of Ruth (Betty) and John L. Robinson, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Schoolcraft Community High School and was a graduate of Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she earned a Bachelors degree in teaching, a Masters in music and a Masters in counseling. She was a long time teacher and guidance counselor in the Kalamazoo school district.

After retiring, Mary spent time in Las Vegas, then relocated to Gerton, NC and developed a wonderful gift in art. She was an active member in a number of art organizations, including the Appalachian Pastel Society and Henderson County Art League. She very much enjoyed her art studies and participated in many art exhibitions and competitions.

The family acknowledges, with much appreciation, the support and friendship of Joni Bloxsom, Gerton neighbors , and the Gerton Fire and Rescue Department who provided emergency services for Mary numerous times in the last several years.

Services will be at Bearwallow Baptist Church on Highway 74-A in Gerton, North Carolina on Saturday, May 17, at 2pm. Pastor Jonathan Jenkins will be officiating. You will be able to visit with family and other friends immediately following the service at the Upper Hickory Nut Gorge Community Club one block south of the church immediately following the service.
