Fletcher - Linda Jean Mazza Hellwege, 70, of Fletcher, made the journey to Heaven to be with Christ on Monday, July 28, 2014, at Flesher's Fairview Health & Retirement Center.
A native of Long Branch, NJ, Mrs. Hellwege was a daughter of the late Samuel Mazza and Irene Ingram Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, August Henry "Gus" Hellwege, who died in 2001; her son, Ronald Kielson; and her brothers, Edward and George "Pudge" Mazza.
Mrs. Hellwege was a wonderful wife and caring mother. She was gracious, tough, and a strong believer in tradition. She always provided for her family and friends, and had an abundant love for children. She was an excellent Italian cook, and was rich with love and family. She was a past member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Hellwege is survived by her sons, Charles Kielson and his wife, Kim, and Paul Hellwege and his wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Jacob, and Jordan Kielson, and Brandon Hellwege; and her brother, John Mazza.
A funeral service for Mrs. Hellwege will be at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tommy Bridges officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery, in Black Mountain.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
