Anne Riddell

Asheville - Patricia "Pat" Anne Riddell, 84, of Asheville died August 6, 2014 at Brooks-Howell Home. A native of New York City, she was born May 21, 1930 to the late John and Gertrude Riddell. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Riddell.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Pat served as a three year teacher in Argentina when she decided to dedicate her life to full-time Christian missionary service. She attended Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA, and then went to Peru to work at Colegio Maria Alvarado, Lima High School and later coordinator for Christian Education of the Peruvian Annual Conference. While in Peru, she participated in leadership training programs. She earned a master's degree in Religious Education from Pacific School of Religion. Pat transferred to Mexico in 1972, as editor and promoter of Christian Literature, teacher in the Deaconess Training School and as President of the Christian Education Committee of the Methodist Church of Mexico. In 1979 she worked with the Methodist Church of Liberia to help complete an African ecumenical curriculum. She returned to Mexico and worked with the Extension Seminary for rural pastors and for laity.

Retiring to Brooks-Brooks-Howell Home in July 1992, she continued a life of service as a Volunteer in Mission in Bethlehem Bible College, Palestine and working with Christian Education workshops and seminary training in the Dominican Republic.

She was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Judith Cummings of Cottowood, AZ.

A memorial service will be held 3:30 PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in the chapel of Brooks-Howell Home with the Reverends Richard Schilling and Don Turman officiating.
