West Asheville - Marvin Ronald Mathews, 55, of West Asheville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 3, 2011 after an extended battle of Renal Cell Cancer residing at his home on Candler Knob Road.
Marvin was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County born October 12, 1955. He was a dedicated husband, father, papaw, Deacon, choir member, and member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. He was a person who loved family, life, and being a servant of God. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and being with his grandchildren and friends. Marvin worked for 30 years at Steelcase in Fletcher until the closing of the Fletcher plant. He then owned his own business, M&J Land Shaping and Construction until his declining health.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Eloree Mathews of West Asheville.
Entrusted with lifelong memories are his wife, Karen; son, Jason Lee and wife, Andi. To continue his story are his cherished grandchildren, Jamison and Jennalee. He is also survived by a sister, Cecilia Warren and husband, Dennis of Kernersville, NC; a very special cousin, Rosalee Reeves and husband John of West Asheville. He will be greatly remembered by many longtime friends, brothers, and sisters in Christ.
A Celebration of Eternal Life Service will be held Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11:00 am at Pole Creek Baptist Church with the Reverends Dennis Thurman and Leonard Cole officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Flowers are accepted and memorial contribution can be mailed to Pole Creek Baptist Church (Deacons Ministry), 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
