Asheville - Thomas Michael Chambers, 69, passed away on October 28, 2011. He was born in Asheville on December 10, 1941, where he lived most of his life. He was the son of Elsie Stallings Chambers and Phillip Edgar Chambers who predeceased him. He is survived by a sister, Diane Chambers Pemberton (Charles Pfaff) of Mars Hill, NC; Joseph Boykin Pemberton Jr of Winston-Salem, NC; a niece, Allyson Pemberton Nichtern (Joshua) of Winston-Salem, NC; two nephews, Joseph Boykin Pemberton III (Nancy) of Mooresville, NC, and John Jeffrey Pemberton (Janet) of Lewisville, NC; a grand-nephew, and two grand-nieces. Mr. Chambers served 14 years in the US Navy aboard aircraft carriers on the flight decks. He also assisted in the rescue of downed Navy personnel during the Vietnam War. After returning to Asheville he worked with nuclear power plants throughout the South as a valve specialist. He was a man who enjoyed the company of others, and he loved all of Nature, especially fishing. According to his wishes, his remains were cremated, and the ashes will be scattered at a private location. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, off Hwy 26. Take exit 11 and go left to the center of Mars Hill. From that traffic light go 2.3 miles west on Hwy 213. Turn right on Bone Camp Rd. Go 1/4 miles and turn left onto a gravel drive. The family welcomes family and friends.
