MARIETTA, GA. - James M. Williams Jr., 74, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2012, at his home in Marietta, Georgia, in the presence of his beloved family. A native of Buncombe County, N.C., he was the son of the late James M. Williams (Med) Sr. and the late Margaret Cagle Williams. Jim was a lifelong member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church. Jim graduated from Sand Hill High School in 1955. He served honorably in the United States Navy for four years, spending most of that time in California. Jim and his family returned to Asheville for a short period of time before moving to Charlotte, N.C., where Jim was employed in the logistics industry. He was employed by a variety of air freight companies in Charlotte, N.C., Dallas, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia, before opening his own company. Jim was often referred to as "Big Jim" and had an awesome sense of humor that entertained all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and live forever in our hearts. Jim enjoyed stock car races, participating in car shows, boating, traveling, and spending time with his large family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Jan Williams, sons: Doug Williams (Sharon) of Canton, Ga.; James M. Williams III (Pam) of Atlanta, Ga.; and Truett Williams of Marietta, Ga.; daughters: Jaimme Williams of Asheville, N.C.; Cymantha Waites (Sam) of Candler, N.C.; Kimberly Williams of Candler, N.C.; Allison Correll (Michael) of Canton, Ga.; and Shannon Parsons (David) of Acworth, Georgia; fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sister Judith Clark (Jim) of Asheville, N.C.; brother-in-laws: Jerry Taylor (Dee) of Mission, Texas; Wayne Taylor of Candler, N.C.; and Larry Taylor (Carla) of Asheville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his infant son Andrew Shane Williams, sister-in-law Billie Ann Taylor, and nephew George M. Thompson III. Services will be Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Darby Funeral Home at 4:00 - 7:00 in Canton, Georgia. Celebration and Interment services will be held in Candler, N.C., on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Chapel and Cemetery. The family invites everyone to join them at Brigadoon Club House at 100 Heather Way immediately following services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to .
