SWANNANOA - Ernest G. Holbert, 89, went to be with his Heavenly father at the John F. Keever Solace Center on Monday December 24th 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Annie Mae; wife, Betty Holbert; brothers, Wayne, Kyle, and Bill; sister, Ila Mae.
He is survived by a son, Glenn Holbert (Kay); granddaughters, Becky Wilson (Kenny), Susan Clark (Robbie) and Megan Salazar; and 6 great grandchildren.
Ernest was a soft spoken man that loved his family, church and community deeply. He raised Azaleas and loved to work in his garden. Most of the time you would find him lending a hand to those who needed transportation to appointments, or you would find him visiting friends at the nursing homes. Ernest loved to cook for his friends and family. He served our country during WW II in the Quarter Master division. He was a life time member of Swannanoa Methodist Church. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday the 29th of December at 2 PM in the chapel of Wilson Family Funeral Service in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
