Lucille Elledge Obituary

MARION - Mrs. Lucille Fisher Elledge, age 85, passed into her eternal home after a period of declining health on Thursday, January 3, 2013. She was blessed to be at her home when she left this world and to have her loving family at her side. Born in Spartanburg County, SC on April 21, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Harvey M. Fisher and Ethel Estel Taylor Fisher. Lucille was a graduate of Marion High School and went on to earn an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from Greensboro Womens College (now UNCG). She married Dean Elledge on March 19, 1948 and they lived in Winston-Salem where he was employed as a technician and she worked as a secretary with Western Electric. A few years later Dean took a job with Duke Power Co. and they moved back to Marion where they lived out their lives. Lucille was a homemaker and will be remembered for her beauty, inside and out, and for the many ways she cared for not only her immediate family but her friends and neighbors as well. She loved to entertain, was a fantastic cook, and was like a mother to every kid on her street. Lucille was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion for 73 years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. After 62 years of marriage, her husband Dean preceded her in death in 2009.

She leaves two children behind, Bob Elledge and his wife, Sonia, of Marion and Jane Elledge Miller of Arden; two grandchildren, Amanda Elledge Finn and her husband, Patrick, of Marion and Michael J. Miller of Asheville; and five cousins, Margaret Hollingsworth, Joel B. Walden, Beth Walden, Elaine Harklerode and her husband, Gordon, and Pat Coats and her husband, Don.

A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Dr. Scott Hagaman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated. Those desiring to make a memorial contribution in her memory are encouraged to consider First Baptist Church of Marion at 99 N.
