Hot Springs - Floyd W. Waldroup, age 94 of Spruce Pine formally of Hot Springs passed away on February 2nd, at 4:15 P.M. after an extended illness. He was born on February 9th, 1918 in Madison County. He was preceded in death by his Father, Noah Cleveland Waldroup, his Mother, Elizabeth Waldroup; his Grandson, Michael Waldroup; his Daughter In Law, Doris Waldroup; his Sisters; Ethel Henderson and Ruby Waldroup; his Brothers; Boyd Waldroup and Otis Waldroup. Mr. Waldroup was a Deacon for 70 years and a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church in Hot Springs. He was a farmer and retired from Burlington Industries and Hot Spring Housing. He was very active in his Church. He was a great bass singer. He sang in his Church Choir and special groups. He played the guitar and harmonica. He enjoyed bear hunting with the Spring Creek Bear Club.
Mr. Waldroup is survived by his wife Edna Waldroup of 74 years. They were honored and received a proclamation from the World Wide Marriage Encounter as being the "Longest Married Couple" in the State Of North Carolina on February 2011. Also survived are 2 sons; Rev. Roy Waldroup and wife Sandra of Fletcher, N.C.; Don Waldroup of Spruce Pine; Grandsons: Rev. Darrin Waldroup and wife Jeanna of Spruce Pine; Ken Waldroup and wife Trish of Spruce Pine: Great-Granddaughters; Laura Verla and Husband Thomas of Richmond Va.; Shelby Waldroup of Spruce Pine, Great-Grandsons, Adam Waldroup and Luke Waldroup of Spruce Pine; Troy and Zack Waldroup of Fletcher, N.C.
The funeral services for Mr. Floyd Waldroup will be conducted at 12 noon on Tuesday, Feb. 5th in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home, Marshall, N.C. with the Rev's Roy Waldroup, Darrin Waldroup and Frank Willett officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:00 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to either; Zion Baptist Church, Hot Springs, N.C. or Hospice of Mitchell County; 236 Hospital Dr. in Spruce Pine, N.C. 28777.
The family would like to say, "Thank You" to the employees of Mitchell House and Hospice for the wonderful care of Floyd during his illness with his family and friends.
