Alvin W. Berry, Jr.

Swannanoa - Alvin W. Berry, Jr., 84, of Swannanoa, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013.

Mr. Berry was born September 4, 1928 in Avery County to the late Alvin and Hazel Smith Berry.

He was an avid animal lover, raising horses and cows. Alvin was owner and operator of Berry's Feed and Seed for over 37 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wyandotte, Michigan and of the Woodman of the World in Swannanoa. Mr. Berry was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Berry; and sister, Mildred Jones.

Mr. Berry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sadie Berry; sons, Mike Berry of Asheville and Patrick Berry (Christina) of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Phyllis Hutchins and Marlene Maney; and brother, Ralph Berry.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with the Reverend Gayle Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodmen of the World of Swannanoa, 111 Scenic View Drive, Swannanoa, NC 28778.
