David George Bair

Alexander - David George Bair died on March 7, 2013 in the arms of his wife, Dianne Harper Bair. Cancer claimed him far too soon - this vibrant, affectionate, and accomplished man who lived fully and well.

David was born on September 2, 1940 on his family's farm in Hanover PA. He served in the Air Force while raising a family that included three treasured children. After completing his service David was hired by IBM. When he retired to Asheville, David indulged his lifelong attraction to woodworking. And he made beautiful things.

In 2009 David married Dianne Harper. Together they built a home and small farm in Alexander NC near cherished friends. David and Dianne enjoyed spending time together hiking and working the farm.

David expressed his faith through service in his church. He was active in First Congregational UCC in Asheville, and Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Mars Hill. He was a Mason.

When his extended family of beloved nieces and nephews scattered throughout the US, the annual summer reunion in Hanover became very important to David. He helped create a second tradition: the President's Day Card Weekend. "If you deal them, they will come."

David was preceded in death by his brothers Glenn, Dale, and Clayton Bair, and by his sisters Irene Wentz and Audrey Hull.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Harper; sisters Janet Noel and Sara Sanner; his children Kent Bair and Kent's wife Cindy, Bob Bair, and Cindy Bair Colbert and her husband Joe; stepson Jesse Mattimore; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23 at Sabbath Rest Farm in Alexander NC at 2:00 p.m.; drive to 26 Edna Roberts Rd and follow the signs. Trinity United Church of Christ in Hanover PA will host a service on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Mars Hill NC; or CaringBridge.org; or CarePartnersFoundation.org.
