IRIS HAYWOOD PERRY

KNOXVILLE, TN - Iris Haywood Perry passed away at 8:35 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013 at her west Knoxville home after an extended illness. Iris was a native of Danville, Virginia and was a resident of Knoxville for more than forty-six years. She was a devoted member of West Hills Baptist Church. Following graduation from high school, Iris earned a degree in Nursing from Danville Memorial Hospital and then attended the University of North Carolina. During World War II, Iris enlisted in the United States Navy where she served as a Navy Nurse at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, attaining the rank of Ensign. After moving to Knoxville, Iris studied at the University of Tennessee where she became an Interpreter for the Deaf. Throughout her life she actively served her church and community and was a member of the Knoxville Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. Iris leaves behind an amazing family who will miss her terribly. She is survived by her husband, Carl David Perry of Knoxville; sons, David Perry and wife, Heidi, of Chapel Hill, NC, Richard H. Perry and wife, Debbie, of Louisville, TN, and Daughter Ann Perry Flood and husband, Richard, of Vallejo, California; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A service to Celebrate Mrs. Perry's life will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the sanctuary of West Hills Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Drew Prince. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Hills Baptist Church Mission Fund, 409 N. Winston Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.
