Rickett, Jr.

Maggie Valley - Ernest Edward Rickett, Jr., 77, of Maggie Valley, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

A native of McDowell Co., he was a son of the late Ernest Rickett, Sr., and Margaret Guthrie Rickett Shepherd.

Mr. Rickett was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired special ed teacher, and lastly worked for the Asheville Citizen Times.

He was a lifetime member of the Asheville Wesleyan Church, and most recently was a member of Maggie Valley First Baptist Church.

Mr. Rickett is survived by a daughter, Amy Harden and husband Jim; granddaughters Grace and Joy Harden; and sisters Patricia Smith Bates and Joy Evans.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave., with funeral services following at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Ricky Mason officiating. Interment will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery.

The family will also gather at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Maggie Valley First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood Christian Academy, PO Box 609, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
