Kate Barnett Obituary

Kate Marie

Barnett

Kate Marie Barnett, who was 22 years old, resided in Fairview North Carolina, graduated from Gardner-Webb in spring of 2014 with her Nursing degree, as an ROTC Cadet. Kate was killed in a severe car accident, the evening of November 23, 2014 in West Virginia; along with her soon to be fiancé and the light of her life, Stephen Parson.

Kate is the daughter of Bill and Lisa Barnett. She was born December 5, 1991 in St. Louis Missouri. Kate was outspoken and quiet; wild and crazy but calm and withdrawn. She always blended in and stood out at will, she could calm the scene or be the one to make a scene. Kate was the ultimate contradiction and loved it! She was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, and friend; the color in every rainbow, the twinkle of our eye. She lived each moment to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Yet today she dances with her savior Jesus!

Kate is survived by: Her parents Bill and Lisa Barnett of Fairview NC, Aunts Alanne Whitaker and Nancy Gonzolas of Sacramento CA, Sister Kori Byrd and husband Gordon Byrd of Bakersville NC, Brothers Casey Barnett of Fairmont WV and Kyle Barnett of Leicester NC, Sister Kelly Barnett of Fairview NC, Niece/Nephew Hunter, Danica, Alexis, Jonathan of Bakersville NC.

Memorial service will be held at King of Glory Church 218 Patton Cove Rd Swannanoa NC 28778 on November 29, 2014 at 4pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project since her biggest passion was always caring for those that were hurt or broken.

Kate was charismatic every day, passionate in all things, vivid in all ways.

I remember when I first met Kate, when she was accepted into our nursing program at GWU. I knew right away that she was a super, special person. She came by everyday to tell me hello and she always had a big smile on her face, even on test days. She brought joy to everyone who knew her. She was so happy when she got her first job as an RN. I knew she would make an amazing, caring , and compassionate nurse. Although it is hard for us to comprehend the reason God chose to call her home so early, I know she fulfilled her purpose on earth by touching so many lives with her sweet and bubbly personality, compassionate heart, and loving spirit. Kate, I feel honored to have known you and been a part of your life for the past four years. And to her family, I pray that God will put his loving arms around you and give you grace and comfort in the days to come, knowing that you will see Kate again some day!

Mr. and Mrs. Barnett,
I was one of Kate's Senior ROTC instructors. It was very wonderful knowing her; she was always jubilant. Kate was always that person whom we could depend on to help in all our training events. When I first met her, there was just her and another student from Gardner Webb University in the class. It was my first-time teaching college students, and they were a great pair to help me become a better instructor. She earned a coin from our senior leader out of FT Bragg at the beginning of this month of November for her dedication to her fellow cadets. She will truly be miss.

Mr. & Mrs. Barnett,
I didn't know Kate but I knew Stephen as I was one of his supervisor's for several years at Fort Hood when I was active duty. He was one fine and outstanding young man, always helpful, intelligent, very physically fit, great personality. He was at our farm during a party we had one day. Stephen frequently spoke about Kate, we sometimes worked night shift and he spoke about her at length. This terrible tragedy, worst thing to happen to the truly finest people in my 33 years of military, resonates with hundreds of people across the country. I'm far from alone out here at Ft Hood. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My prayer is for our Lord to envelop your family with His amazing love, grace and mercy filling the void as only He can.

I remember her writing a paper about me and how she loved evangelism and outreach. I so enjoyed watching her change lives and share so much with people. She loved to minister to the hurting and I know she carried out what God had called her too. Well done thy good and faithful servant. This world is forever better because you made an impact by showing the love of Christ in a practical way. Let's honor her by doing the same.

My family was blessed to have known Kate. She became my daughter's nurse just a few months ago and the entire family fell in love with her immediately. My daughter Lindsey has a severe neurological condition and requires much care. Kate was so precious with Lindsey and they fell in love with each other instantly. It was easy to see that Kate had a heart and a soul that did not have an equal on this earth. My family and I are devastated at this great loss and we pray for Kate's family and friends to receive God's grace in this time of need. To know Kate was a privilege, she was truly an angel on earth.

Kate was an energetic and fun cadet to be around. She was my "go to" cadet during FTXs as our only medic and she made certain she was there training even when she did not have to. As a wounded warrior and leader of Soldiers in combat, I can say that Kate was everything we need as a nurse and Army officer. Truly sad for her parents and family.

I had the honor of working with Kate at A New Hope Home Care where where I am employed as the Director of Clinical Services. Dear Barnett Family,

Our family weeps with yours at the sudden ending of your beautiful, amazing, godly daughter. In His wisdom, He knows why this took place so suddenly. As we cried out in anguished prayer, not knowing if Stephen had met His Savior, we found out, to our comfort that Kate had introduced him. We weep and grieve with you and your family for this earthly loss, is heaven's gain. But eternity is written on our hearts, so we do not know what to do with this pain but run to Jesus. They graduated before us and are waiting to be reunited with all of us. No more pain, no more tears, no more sorrow or sickness. They stepped out of their earth suits into their new bodies. Much love, Robert Wendell and Adeline Parson, Oaks, PA

Dearest Kate, thanks for speaking up for me in class; lol, that's how I first met you. Soon afterwards, we became study buddies, and boy did you know your material! Studying for Nursing Finals was awesome because you were there; I remember how you refused to leave until you were certain that I knew the material. I appreciate you Kate. I once heard that it's not how long one lives, but what one does with the time he or she has on this earth; you my friend lived a life of quality. You loved strong and fought hard, and now you can rest peacefully. Rest In Heaven my friend, until we meet again. Lynette
