Elizabeth Ingraham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 12 to Dec. 13, 2009.
Elizabeth Pearson Nock Ingraham, born Aug. 14, 1923, died Nov. 20, 2009, of natural causes after a fall.

Elizabeth was born in Newburyport, Mass., daughter and second child of Herbert K. and Elizabeth P. Nock. She spent her earliest years in that city and moved later to Schenectady N.Y. where her father worked, during the Depression, at General Electric, before returning the family to their roots in northeastern Massachusetts.

She attended the University of New Hampshire in the fall of 1941, but transferred to Simmons College in Boston after war was declared. She graduated in 1945 from Simmons' Prince School of Retailing, and on her 22nd birthday celebrated VJ day with her fellow citizens.

In 1949 she married Robert C. Ingraham, also formerly of Schenectady. They built a life together principally in Topsfield, Mass., and Bedford and Meredith. Beth worked for many years as a school librarian, and was a passionate reader and advocate for public education.

Once retired, she enthusiastically volunteered at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in Meredith, the Meredith Public Library, and Lakes Region General Hospital. Together she and her husband enjoyed everything from Red Sox games and jazz concerts in their early marriage, to life by Lake Wicwas in Meredith, and in later years, visiting their grandchildren.

Beth is survived by her daughter and son, Robin Farabaugh, of Baltimore, Md., and Peter, of Amherst, and five grandchildren, Miranda, Susannah and Samuel Farabaugh, and Robert and Stewart Ingraham. Her husband Robert died in 1996.

A private burial will be held in the spring. The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
