TILTON - Dorothy Shaw Atwood, 88, of Tilton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2011.

She was born in Salisbury and had eight brothers and three sisters. She and her late husband, Allen, lived in what is now known as the Maria Atwood Inn in Franklin. Later they moved to Wellesley, Mass.

Dorothy lived a full life and loved being with family and friends. She was a stalwart member of the Hope Community Chapel in West Franklin. She exemplified the pioneer spirit. Dorothy collected antiques, taught rug hooking, enjoyed doing cross-stitch and playing cards. She loved to bake, especially bread and her famous lemon bundt cake. She also loved ice cream.

Survivors include her son, Allen W. Atwood, and his wife, Linda, of California; two brothers, Frederick Shaw and his wife, Edwina, and Hale Shaw and his wife, Yvette, of New Hampshire; and two grandsons, Michael, and his wife, Meredy, and Gary, of California. Dorothy is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Hope Community Chapel, 108 Hill Road, West Franklin, on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at 3 p.m.
