Francis Rothenbecker Obituary

Francis T. Rothenbecker Sr., 83, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec.. 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving family in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Francis C. and Margaret Rothenbecker and was a graduate of Kingston High School. He then served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He came home and began a 45 year career at Acme Markets, Forty Fort. He was also a state constable serving Luzerne County for many years. He had been a very active member in the community and his religious faith serving St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, as a long time member of the church and choir, St. Conrads Society, where he was a past president and treasurer, Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus Wilkes-Barre Council 302, where he was a past Grand Knight, Fourth degree member of the Bishop William J. Hafey Assembly 925, Wilkes-Barre, former coach of St. Therese Little League South Wilkes-Barre, and a longtime member of the Teamsters Local 401, Wilkes-Barre, serving in various capacities.

He enjoyed watching his favorite his sports teams the New England Patriots and Notre Dame football.

In addition to his parents, He was preceded by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth 'Betty' Rothenbecker; a son, Dennis; and brother, Charles.

He will be sadly missed by his sons, William and wife, Susan; Francis Jr. and wife, Nancy; and David; grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Jeffrey and Dennis Jr.; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Addison and Holden; brothers, John and Leo; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Nicholas Church, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Rothenbecker.
