Gerald W. Kaufman, 89, of Coconut Creek, Fla., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, in the University of Miami Hospital, Miami, Fla.
He was the son of the late William and Lena Schlonsky Kaufman and the husband of the late Jeanne Park Kaufman, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
Prior to retirement, Gerald owned and operated the Berwick Packing Co. and the Lakeside Meat Co. and also was an independent livestock dealer during those years. Following retirement, he operated, along with Jeanne, the Temple Shalom Thrift Store located in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Gerald was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and received annual honors for his unwavering support with the Margate, Fla., chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom, Coconut Creek, Fla., and a former member of Temple Israel and the Ohav Zedek congregations, both in Wilkes-Barre.
Gerald possessed remarkable wisdom and exhibited great passion in life. He considered truth, honesty and integrity to be the most important virtues.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Kaufman and Stuart Kaufman; nephews, nieces and cousins.
Surviving are a sister, Esther Buchsbaum; sons, Mark Kaufman and his wife, Marcia; Dr. Jay Kaufman and his wife, Phyllis; and Dr. Scott Kaufman and his wife, Dana; daughters, Lynne Kaufman Warshaw and Cathy Lipton and her husband, David; Pop-Pop to 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and dedicated companion, Faye Silver.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday from Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, by Rabbi Larry Kaplan.
Interment will be in Dalton Jewish Cemetery following services.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Mark and Marcia Kaufman, 40 Marjorie Ave., Wilkes-Barre, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund, Temple Israel Wilkes-Barre; Greater Miami Jewish Federation; or Temple Beth Shalom, Coconut Creek, Fla.

Remeber Gerald very well as he used to pick up calves and cows from our farm. May he rest in peace and may the family cherish his memory.
