Doreen Murphy, 47, of Pittston passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 18, 2013, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 15, 1966, she was the daughter of Lillian Tozzi Murphy of Pittston and the late John A. Murphy Jr.
She was a graduate of Coughlin High School and received an associate degree from Luzerne County Community College.
She had been employed as a bookkeeper by Sew Fine Interior Design, Luzerne.
Doreen loved spending time on the computer, especially fixing the problems created by whatever buttons her mother pressed by accident. She also enjoyed rides to the big park, trips to the pool, sleepovers on the weekends, and shopping with Aaliyah.
Despite being dealt a rough hand physically, she never succumbed to the difficulties her muscular dystrophy created for her. She truly was a fighter, right until the very end. Although she has gone to be with the Lord, she leaves behind terrific memories and a great smile.
She was a loving daughter, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an uncle, James Himlin, as well as her cousins, Jimmy and Kelly.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, Lillian Tozzi Murphy, Pittston, are a sister, Jackie Horton and her husband, Wes, and their son, Joshua, Pittston; a brother, John A. Murphy III and his wife, Alaynna, West Pittston, and their children, Gabrielle; John IV, Hanover Township; Aaliyah Murphy; Jordan and J.R. Catling, West Pittston; aunts, Antoinette Himlin, Yatesville; Theresa Scott, Exeter; and Gloria Tozzi, Pittston; uncle, Vince Tozzi and his wife, Mary Lou, Yatesville; and numerous cousins.
Private funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston.
