Jean Gregory Obituary

Jean Harrison Gregory, 99, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at North Penn Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Plains Township, Nov. 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Helena LaValley Harrison. She was a graduate of Plains High School and the former Wilkes-Barre Business College.

Mrs. Gregory had been a professional dancer, traveling with her mother and dancing teacher, the late Terrance J. Tracey. She had been a model for children's clothing for the former McWilliams Department Store and in later years for the former Lazarus Department Store. Mrs. Gregory had been employed by the former Isaac Long Department Store and also worked with the Foster Grandparent Program for 18 years at the White Haven Center and later in schools working as a teacher's aide within the special education program.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were husband, Charles W. Gregory; brothers, Harold L. Harrison and Hugh Harrison Jr.; son-in-law, Joseph Bartley Sr.; great-grandson, Benjamin Bartley; companion, Stephen Findora.

Surviving are her daughter, Jean Bartley, Bear Creek Township; sons, Charles H. Gregory, Elliottsburg; Gilbert A. Gregory and wife, Carol, Federal Way, Wash.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 35 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. Entombment will be made in Oak Lawn Cemetery's Mausoleum, Hanover Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 35 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

The Gregory family wishes to thank the staff of North Penn Manor for their outstanding care and also to thank the Southern Care Hospice for their kindness.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harold C. Snowdon Home for Funerals Inc., 420 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.
