Dorothy Scoble Obituary

Dorothy J. Scoble, 83, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at the ManorCare Hampton House, Hanover Township.

She was born April 19, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late David P. and Nellie Cooper Mathews.

A graduate of Coughlin High School, she was formerly employed by the offices of Wyoming Seminary. She also was employed by the Social Security Administration Data Operations Center and as a secretary for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.

Dorothy was a longtime and active member of the Parsons Primitive Methodist Church. She held many positions with the church, including Sunday school teacher, leader of the youth group, and church clerk. She also assisted the Muhlenburg United Methodist Church with their fundraising events.

Dorothy enjoyed golfing and attending the YMCA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Scoble, who passed away Dec. 16, 2005; siblings, Edna Koleszar, Lee Mathews, David Mathews and John Mathews; and niece, Elizabeth (Betsy) McFarland.

Surviving are her great-niece, Christina Coates, West Chester; faithful friends, Cheryl Franklin, Muhlenburg; and Mary Jane Uhing, Nanticoke; godchild, Paula Franklin, Hamilton, N.J. The Franklin family adopted Dorothy as their grandmother and she was known as Grandma Dee Dee to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Andy Jerome, pastor of Parsons Primitive Methodist Church.

Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Parsons Primitive Methodist Church, 193 Austin Ave., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.
