Robert E. Post, 86, of Dallas passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Celtic Health Care Hospice Inpatient Unit in Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Bob was the son of the late James B. Sr. and Florence Irene Evans Post.
Bob was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1943, and attended the Philadelphia School of Pharmacy where he earned certification as a pharmacy apprentice. He then joined the Navy and served during World War II as a certified hospital apprentice first class. After the war, Bob attended the Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business, graduating in 1946.
In 1946 he joined his family's business, J.B. Post Coal and Ice Co. In later years, Bob was owner and operator of Leasing Associates, as well as a partner in Computerized Mail Services and the owner and operator of Inca Co., a manufacturer of specialty concrete products.
Bob was a Mason, a member of the Irem Temple, Dallas, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was a past president of the Westmoreland Club, a member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club and the Huntsville Country Club. He was a past president and longtime board member of the Association for the Blind. He was proud to be a key developer of United Rehabilitation Services and served as a board member of Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus.
Always very active within his community, Bob was a former mayor of Dallas Borough and served on the borough council for many years.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, the former Ruth Wood; brother, James B. Post Jr.; and companion, Jean Robbins Hughes.
Surviving are his son, Robert E. Post Jr. and wife, Joanne, Plains Township; daughters, Deborah P. Stevens and husband, Douglas, Potomac, Md.; and Cynthia Post Mitchell, Dallas; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nephews, James B. Post III and Ronald Post.
A memorial funeral service will be held at noon on Nov. 23 in Shavertown United Methodist Church, 163 N. Pioneer Ave., Shavertown. The Rev. M. Lynn Snyder will officiate. Interment will be made in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. The Post family will receive friends in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service Nov. 23.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Post Scholarship Fund, c/o Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus, Old Route 115, P.O. Box PSU, Lehman, PA 18627.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
