Allen, Laurence - Lancaster  
Laurence Allen was born June 27, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, to Lawrence and Ruth Hughes Allen. Larry passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, in Palmdale, Calif., at the age of 75. He made his home for the past 45 years in Lancaster, Calif., and enjoyed living in the warm high desert. He was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg University, and a Master of Science degree from Bucknell University. He was a lifelong educator and spent 25 years teaching at Mojave High School in Mojave, Calif. After retirement in 1994, he spent time teaching at Cerro Coso Community College at Edwards Air Force Base. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Malinda Allen; his two children, Marcus Allen and Jennifer Allen; his sister, Margaret (Carl) Kohl, Wilkes-Barre; nieces, Kimberly Burke and Christina Kohl; great-nephew, Casey; and great-niece Ella. Additionally, Larry had extended family in Oregon and Pennsylvania as well as numerous in-laws' families located around the Williamsport area. He was an amazing person who touched and inspired many people throughout the journey of his life. He will be deeply missed by all, especially his artistry and sense of humor. Larry's last wishes were to have his ashes scattered at sea. No formal services are to be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his name to any of the following organizations he supported: the ASPCA, Humane Society, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Paralyzed Veterans.

Bettelli, Pauline  
Pauline Bettelli, 87, a resident of Riverview Ridge, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Wilkes-Barre she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Wojcik Pokrifka. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, John Bettelli. She was owner and operator of Bettelli's Villa and the former Pizza Casa, Wilkes-Barre. Surviving are her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Pauline's life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum. Giuliano Jr., James - Laflin  
James Giuliano Jr. of Laflin passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born March 20, 1960, in Scranton, he was the son of the late James Giuliano and Joan (Clisham) Giuliano. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1978. He earned his associate degree in business from Luzerne County Community College. Jim was a proud member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Pittston. Surviving are his sisters, Michele and husband, Joe Bojnowski, Dupont; Lisa and wife, Ron Ardenti, New Jersey; Tanya and husband, Jack Stacey, Pittston Township; nieces, Stephanie and Caitlin; nephews, Michael, Joey and Ronnie; his best friend, his dog, JAG. Also surviving are numerous aunts uncles and cousins. Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township. A viewing will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Pittston, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Hadvance, Christine Broody  
Christine Broody Hadvance, 46, of Edwardsville passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends after struggling with cancer, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Courtdale, daughter of Theresa Romanoski Broody of Courtdale and the late Charles (Sonny) Broody. She was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, and was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston. Chrissy will be remembered for having a Huge Heart. She was a very giving person who was always there for anyone who needed help, always putting herself last.Chrissy enjoyed spending time at the beach, cooking, reading a good book and most of all, spending time with her loving family. May heaven be blessed to have a loving angel come home. Chrissy will never be forgotten in our Thoughts or our "Now Broken Hearts." Love You Forever! She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Broody III. Besides her mother, Chrissy is survived by her daughter, Tess Hadvance, Wilkes-Barre; son, Logan Hadvance, Edwardsville; granddaughter, Serena (Bella); sisters, Kathleen Roccograndi, Courtdale; and Linda Bond, Larksville; brother, Kurt Broody, Courtdale. Hayden, Lenora E.  
Lenora E. Hayden of Dallas passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Born Feb. 2, 1934 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Cosmo and Mary Ripa Magli. Lenora was a graduate of GAR High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1952. She was formerly employed by Air Reduction, Murray Hill, N.J., Yurko Florist, Wilkes-Barre, and as the store interior decorator for many years at Town and Country Furniture, Wilkes-Barre. Lenora was an exceptionally talented artist and interior designer. Many families in the Back Mountain relied on her decorating advice and her paintings and sculptures adorn her Huntsville home. She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her sister, Francis Magli Jones; brother, Daniel Magli, sister-in-law, Florence Letoski Magli; and brother-in-law, Henry Jones. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Hayden, Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Patrick Musto, Dallas; brother, Angelo Magli, Shavertown; granddaughters, Olivia and Gianna Musto, Dallas; sister-in-law, Margaret Magli, Exeter; nephew, Dino Magli, Wilkes-Barre; nieces, Carol Kasper, Wilkes-Barre; Renee Koncewicz and husband, Joseph, Shickshinny; Michele Fagula and husband, David, Dallas; great-nieces, Ashlee Stoodley and husband, Patrick, Kingston; Marlo Kasper, Wilkes-Barre; Caroline Koncewicz, Shickshinny; great-nephews, Bradley Fagula, Philadelphia; Joseph Koncewicz Jr., York; five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. The family gives special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Heart and Vascular Institute at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for their care and kindness. Krolewski, Loretta Julia - Inverness  
Loretta Julia Krolewski, 90, of Inverness, Fla., ended her earthly journey on Dec. 22, 2014 at Shands in University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., following a recently acquired illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, to her parents, the late Paul and Mary Kobeski, she attended Marymount School, graduating in 1942. After working for the department of the Navy during World War II, she returned to the valley, married and worked in the clothing industry during most of her life. Retiring in the 1980s, she moved to Florida to be with family and appreciate the warmer climate. Loretta enjoyed gardening and served on the family support team for the 345th Combat Support Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Bertha Yourelonis, who ended her time on this earth two months ago. In addition to her sister, she also succeeded her brother, Charles Kobeski and sister, Lottie Yatsko. Loretta is survived by her son, Edward Krolewski and his wife, Jane, Inverness, Fla.; grandson, Michael Ferullo and his wife, Alexandra, Houston, Texas; nephew, Charles Yourelonis, Hanover Township; niece, Bernadine Yochum, Exeter; niece, Gail Humko and husband, David, Harding; and nephew, Robert Yochum and wife, Kim, Harding. A Blessing service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. James McGahagen officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Monday, and 9:30 until time of service Tuesday. Pitts, Loretta  
Loretta Pitts, 71, of Plymouth passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Born Aug. 13, 1943 in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Edna Wieszczynski Godek. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and graduated with honors from King's College, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in criminal justice. She also attended Queens College, New York. Loretta was employed by King's College for 20 years, and then was employed in the Luzerne County Court System, until her retirement in 2014. She a member of the former St. Mary's Nativity Church, of Plymouth, and was active with various political organizations throughout the Wyoming Valley for over 20 years. Loretta deeply adored spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing crafts. She had a special place in her heart for stray animals and was a trustworthy and loyal friend to many. Surviving are her loving son, John Pitts and his wife, Diane, Clarks Summit; grandchildren, Kyle and Caila Pitts; sisters, Caroline Deane, New York; Isabelle Smith, Florida; Louise Kovalik and her husband, David, Hunlock Creek; and Brenda Pacewicz, Nicholson; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Purta, Evelyn A.  
Evelyn A. Purta, 74, of Wilkes-Barre Township passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the Timber Ridge Health Care Center, Plains Township. She was born in Wilkes-Barre on May 5, 1940, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Tucker Trudnak. Evelyn was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School and the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing. She was formerly employed as a registered nurse by the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Plains Township and as a private duty nurse. Evelyn was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Chester P. Purta Jr., in 2007. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Michelle Kijek and her husband, John, Hanover Township; granddaughter, Courtney Kijek; sister, Barbara Purta, Macungie; and by her niece, Melissa Faura Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
