Baiera, Joan Ann Yonki - Pittston
Joan Ann Yonki Baiera entered into her eternal reward unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, because of injuries suffered in a car accident. She was born April 16, 1943, in the Pittston Hospital, to John and Mildred Walukonis Yonki. She attended Pittston High School and was a lifelong employee of the garment industry. For many years she worked at The Pittston Apparel, Lee Manufacturing, and currently at Custom Seats, Pittston. Joanie was a gifted seamstress, had a stellar work ethic and excelled at her job. She was predeceased by her parents and also her former husband, Leonard T. Baiera, in 2013. Joanie is survived by her loving daughters, Joan Ann Shuga and her husband, David, Trucksville; and Lisa Marie Musto and her husband, Jim, Jenkins Township. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Julie and Jimmy Musto. Joan has two sisters, Rosemary Stankus and her husband, John, and Mary Jean Coolbaugh, both of Pittston. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, whom she loved, Rosemary Burbich and her husband, John, Perkiomenville. Joan also has a niece and several nephews. Joan will be sadly missed by her companion, John Sarris, Forty Fort. Our mother Joan was a role model to everyone who knew her; she was kind and compassionate when we needed nurturing, she was a pillar of strength when we needed her to be tough, and she always had the wisdom to know when we needed help. Always there when you needed her - no matter how trivial the problem, she always would find the words to make you feel better. Joanie was a devout Catholic and loved her church. She had great faith and trust in God; so much so that in a note left for her daughters to be opened when God called her from this life, she wrote, "I love you very much and I am very grateful for the life I had. I know you will miss me but please do not be sad for me when I'm gone, I will be very happy where I'm going." Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township. Calling hours for Joan will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Friday. Those who plan on attending should be at the funeral home no later than 8:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, William Street, Pittston, at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Monsignor John J. Bendik will officiate. Joan will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Cemetery Exeter. Interment services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Care and Concern Ministries of St. John the Evangelist Parrish Community, 35 William St., Pittston PA 18640.
