Bafunno, Joseph - Mountain Top  
Joseph Bafunno, 84, of Mountain Top passed away Monday evening, June 29, 2015, at his residence. Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Daniel and Carmella Summa Bafunno. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He was a draftsman and worked for Kennedy Van Saun in Danville prior to his retirement. Joseph was a hard-working and loving man. He loved to hunt and fish and will be deeply missed by his family. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Phyllis Bafunno; a daughter, Nancy Klingler; sisters, Philomay Bafunno, Lucy Zaikoski and Frances Casaldi; and brothers, Frank and Vincent Bafunno. Surviving are his children, Patricia Pelton, Sumpter, S.C.; Joseph Bafunno Jr., Berwick; Kathleen Morris, Swoyersville; and Phillip Bafunno, Ashley. Eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive, along with several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. McCune Funeral Service Inc., Mountain Top, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Joseph Bekanich, 73, of Larksville passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his home. Surviving are his loving wife, the former Elizabeth Stevenson, of 40 years, and his beloved pet yellow lab, Shelby. Private services were held from S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.

Bonham, Elizabeth Challenger Griffith  
Elizabeth Challenger Griffith Bonham, 102, entered into eternal rest Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, in Rock Hill, S.C. Mrs. Bonham was born in Nanticoke on Oct. 10, 1912, to John William and Mary Challenger Griffith. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Charlton Harry Bonham Jr., from whom she got her nickname "Nancy." Nancy and Chuck spent their married life in Pennsylvania, Florida and Charlotte, N.C., but home was always their beloved Lake Nuangola. Nancy attended Randolf Macon College prior to graduating from the University of Michigan. Her education served her well as she ventured into the most challenging of jobs, the rearing of three active boys. Surviving are her sons, Charlton Harry Bonham III and his wife, Linda, Atlanta, Ga.; George Griffith Bonham and his wife, Susan, Rock Hill, S.C.; and Thirwall William Bonham and his wife, Barbara, Blacksburg, Va.; her grandchildren, who will miss their grandma and their wonderful times at the lake, are Chuck Bonham and wife, Eve, Betsy Boggs and husband, Jeff, Phil Bonham, Beth Taylerson and husband, Chris, John Bonham and wife, Laralynn, Jennifer Bonham and Leslie Spoltore and husband, Nick; and her 11 great-grandchildren who have been blessed by her example of how to grow old gracefully. Certainly those who knew her will be assured that today "she couldn't be better!" Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top. Private interment services will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Bowanko, John - Wilkes-Barre  
John Bowanko of Wilkes-Barre died peacefully Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his home. Born April 29, 1955, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Helen Iwaniw Bowanko of Wilkes-Barre and the late Stephen Bowanko Jr. John was a 1973 graduate of G.A.R. High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended Kutztown University. He was employed for many years by Hottle's Restaurant, Wilkes-Barre, as a bartender, and later worked at the Pennsylvania State Wine and Spirits stores for 12 years. He was a member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Edwardsville. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed supporting his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Bowanko Jr.; paternal grandparents, Stephen and Anna Bowanko Sr.; maternal grandparents, Frank and Fenia Iwaniw; and uncles, Peter, Michael and John Iwaniw. Surviving, in addition to his mother, Helen Iwaniw Bowanko, with whom he resided, are numerous uncles, aunts and cousins, and his best friend, Michael Mizanko, Wilkes-Barre. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 70 Zerby Ave., Edwardsville. The Rev. Paul Wolensky, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Parastas services will begin at 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vladimir Mortgage Fund, 70 Zerby Ave., Edwardsville, PA 18704.

Boylan, Patrick J. - Brick  
Patrick J. Boylan, 78, of Brick, N.J., passed away peacefully Saturday, July 4, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family at home. Known to many as Poppy, Dad, Uncle Paddy and Pat, he was born in Philadelphia to the late Joseph and Mary Boylan. He was a former resident of Miners Mills before moving to Brick, N.J., in 1965. Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret McNelis Boylan; his loving children, Patrick Boylan and wife, Donna, Shaun Boylan and Colleen Greig and husband, James; his cherished grandchildren, Patrick, Maggie (L.J.), Molly, Michael, Kathleen, Claire, Mercedes and Shaun; and his great-grandson, James Patrick, who deeply love their Poppy; his dear siblings, Mari jo Van Cavage and husband, Edwin, Rosalie Baur and husband, Frank, Catherine Walkski and husband, Peter, Elizabeth Miner and husband, Robert, J. Buzin, Frank C. - Shavertown  
Frank C. Buzin, 64, of Shavertown passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his residence. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Frank and Irene Pashedney Buzin, and was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School and Luzerne County Community College with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. He was a district supervisor for the PDM Co. Davis Group, which runs several local Burger Kings in the area, for more than 40 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Vietnam conflict. His favorite hobbies included hunting and fishing. Frank was an avid Boston Red Sox, Penn State and Dallas Cowboys fan. Of most importance to him were his children, to whom he was highly devoted. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, the former Charlene Snyder, in 1993. Surviving are his daughters, Lori Buzin, Dallas; Gail Buzin-Wakim and her husband, Anthony, State College; son, Frank J. Buzin, Conshohocken; brothers, John Buzin and James Buzin and his wife, Helene; and sister, Carol Salvaggio. The funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Friday from Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Deacon Thomas Cesarini officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday.
