Balayszis, Stanley - Hanover Township  
Stanley Balayszis, 80, of Hanover Township passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015, in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township. Born April 25, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Stanley J. and Helen Pierrick Balayszis. He later moved to Breslau, Hanover Township, where he resided for many years. Stanley was a graduate of Hanover High School and attended King's College in Wilkes-Barre. He also was a member of the former St. Casimir's Church, Lyndwood, Hanover Township. He was a 10 year veteran, serving honorably with the U.S. Air Force. In his early years, Stanley had worked with the family business, Balayszis Bar, in Breslau, Hanover Township, and with several other family businesses. He was also employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot, in the electronics department. Throughout his life, he greatly enjoyed taking long walks and dancing. He is survived by several cousins, including his caregivers, Clifford and Mary Lou Pomicter, Nanticoke. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 10. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to funeral time at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Muhlenburg. Bezek, John Thomas - Edwardsville  
John Thomas Bezek, 71, of Edwardsville died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. He was born in Kingston, son of the late John and Helen Snyder Bezek. Until his retirement, he worked for many years as a flooring installer, and had served in the U.S. Coast Guard. John, aka Poppa Jack, was a huge fan of NASCAR and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also loved golfing and especially vacations at the beach with his family. The family would like to thank the staff of Medical Oncology Associates for allowing John to be colorful and expressive, and for giving him the nickname, "Carl." John is survived by his wife, the former Diane Margavitch; son, John Bezek Jr., Kingston; daughters, Brenda and her husband, Walter Snopeck, Dallas; and Amy Bezek, Edwardsville; grandchildren, Ally, Lauren, Nicholas and Luke; great-granddaughter, Carina; sister, Mary Ann Williams, Edwardsville; and his granddoggy, Izzy. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerby Ave., Kingston. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce St., Kingston, PA 18704.

Boich, Daniel D. - Wilkes-Barre  
Daniel D. Boich, 83, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday July 26, 2015 at the Celtic Healthcare Hospice in Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. His wife of 57 years is Theresa Vinscavage Boich . Daniel was born Nov. 25, 1931 in Wilkes-Barre. He was the son of the late Wasco Boich and Antoinette Crane Boich. He attended GAR High School and joined the U.S. Army and was a Korean veteran proudly serving his country. He owned and operated Danny's Car Center, Wilkes-Barre for more than 50 years. He was a well-respected businessman. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine's Parish, Wilkes-Barre. He was the father of six children and eight grandchildren. There were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the convenience of the family. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Funeral services were entrusted to the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, Plains Township.

Borowski, Paula C. - Nanticoke  
Paula C. Borowski, 76, of Nanticoke passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Hartsville, S.C., and was the daughter of the late Coley and Ruth Smith Dixon. Paula was a graduate of Lee Central High School, Hartsville, S.C. She was employed as a mental health therapist by First Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and later NPW (Geisinger). Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Emil W., in 1999, and a son, Brian. Presently surviving are her sons, William, Nanticoke; Thomas and wife, Laura, South Carolina; and Michael and wife Alice, South Carolina; daughter, Mary L. Thomas, Nanticoke; grandchildren, Billy Jr., Beth, Bryant, Page, Bill, Brianna, Christopher, Cassidy and Caroline; great-grandchild, Mason; and stepgrandchildren, Bill and Wyapp. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from Grontkowski Funeral Home PC, 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Faustina Parish Church (alternate site, St. Mary's). Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nanticoke. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Bowen, Theresa Frances - Exeter  
Theresa Frances Bowen, 80, of Exeter passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre. Born Oct. 10, 1934, in Pittston, Theresa was the daughter of the late Steven and Margaret Yarina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Bowen, and her son, Robert S. Bowen. Surviving are her son, Raymond Bowen, Exeter; her daughter, Donna Sassi, Exeter; her sisters, Evelyn, Roseanne, Patsy and Betty; her brother, Steven; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Bucknavage, Daniel F. - High Point  
Daniel F. Bucknavage, 63, of High Point, N.C. died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015 at 401 Root Hollow Road, Tunkhannock while taking part in an annual family gathering. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Josephine Starzecki Bucknavage and the late Frank Patrick Bucknavage. He graduated from Marymount High School and King's College. He was employed by and retired from Hartford Insurance Company. Dan was also a longtime member of the Blackledge Golf Club, Hebron, Conn. He lived in Vernon, Conn. for 40 years until his retirement to a warmer climate in North Carolina. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Carol Maier Bucknavage, High Point, N.C.; his two daughters, Leah Ciolkosz and husband, Tim, Hanover, Mass; and Jessica Bucknavage, High Point, N.C.; grandchildren, Nicholas Bucknavage, Benjamin and Samantha Ciolkosz. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from Straub Kane Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre at 9:30 a.m. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Bukowski RN, Joann F. - Nanticoke  
Joann F. Bukowski, RN, 75, of Vista Drive, Nanticoke, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on April 15, 1940, in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Genevieve Kalinowsky Suseck. She graduated from Shenandoah Catholic High School, Class of 1958, and completed her education, graduating from the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1961. Joann began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre and later at the former Nanticoke State Hospital and SCI Retreat for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, and formerly St. Mary of Czestochowa Church. She will be deeply missed by her children, Beth Ann Kratz and husband, Timothy, Nanticoke; Thomas Bukowski and wife, Kimberly, Wapwallopen; and Stephen Bukowski, Nanticoke; grandchildren, Maddy and Lily Kratz and Alexandra and Trevor Bukowski. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the alternate site of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 1030 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. James R. Nash as celebrant. Viewing and visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
