Nealon Sr., Joseph M. - Hanover Township  
Joseph M. (Jed) Nealon Sr., 79, of Hanover Township, formerly of Ashley, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ashley on March 15, 1937, he was the youngest of eight children of the late Patrick Sr. and Kathleen (Bradshaw) Nealon. He was a graduate of St. Leo's High School, Ashley, and he served in the U.S. Army. He was employed as an iron worker by the local union, who built the Salem Township nuclear power plant, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley, and he was a founding member of the St. Leo's Biddy Basketball League and the Ashley Girls Softball League. He was a 30-year member of the Ashley Fire Department, a sergeant-at-arms for the Pennsylvania State Fireman's Association and a member of the Six County Fireman's Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, the former Judy (Wilkie) Nealon; brothers, Patrick Jr., Robert, John and Donald; and sisters, Nancy and Mary Alice. Surviving are his sons, Joseph Jr. (Karen), James (Debbie) and Jeffrey (Donna); daughters, Jean Michelle (Brian), Joyce (Jay) and Justine (Rick); grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Danielle, Kyle, Amber, Lauren, Amanda, Patrick, Rebecca, Nicole, Brenda, Ray and Hailey; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Colleen; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Shirley. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, with the Rev. Vincent Dang officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday. The family would like to thank and commend the staff at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, that were involved in his care during his recent stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to the family to help to defray his medical expenses. Joe was well known throughout the region for his baritone voice and for doing things his way.

John Novak Jr., 75, of Wyoming, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are entrusted to Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., Luzerne.

Novis, Max Harper  
Max Harper Novis, beloved daughter of Frank Novis and Sarah Kozloski, passed away shortly after birth on Monday, April 25, 2016. Preceding her in death were her maternal grandfather, Michael Kozloski, and paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Rosemary Novis. In addition to her parents, Max is survived by her brothers, Alex and Parker Novis; maternal grandparents, Laura and Pete Duncan; uncle, Michael Kozloski; aunt, Wynter Perillo; godmother, Susan Lombardo; and godfather, Angelo Giambra. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Lisa Crawn and the obstetrics staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. There are no calling hours.
