A. Peter Kanjorski

A. Peter Kanjorski, Esq., 77, of South Prospect Street, Nanticoke, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Born on March 14, 1935, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late A. Peter and Wanda Kanjorski. He was a graduate of the Class of 1952 at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, and was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity before transferring to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and earning a B.S. (Bachelor of Science) in Economics in 1957. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia, where he earned a LLB (Bachelor of Laws) in 1960 and was admitted to the practice of law in Pennsylvania in 1961.

Beginning in 1960, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years as a member of the 402d Military Police Prisoner of War Camp, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.

He practiced law with his father and brother at the Kanjorski and Kanjorski law firm in Wilkes-Barre. He was appointed by Governor Casey to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Workers' Compensation Appeal Board from 1990 to 1995, serving as Chairman of the Board. He was then appointed by Secretary of Labor Robert Reich to serve as a Judge on the United States Department of Labor's Employees' Compensation Appeals Board until his retirement in 2005.

He was a member of the Wilkes-Barre Law & Library Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and was a founder and served as a Director of the Earth Conservancy from 1994 to 2004.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wendy Workman.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Nancy Tarkett; four sons, Peter A. Kanjorski and his wife, Susan, Nanticoke, Russell Kanjorski and his wife, Jennifer, Chapel Hill, NC, Mark Kanjorski and his wife, Wanda, Seattle, WA, and Paul Eric Kanjorski and his wife, Shannon, Tampa, FL; eight grandchildren, Peter Alex, Katherine, Elizabeth, William, Emma, Sam, Isabella and Sophia Elise Kanjorski; brother, former U.S. Congressman, the Honorable Paul E. Kanjorski and his wife Nancy, Nanticoke; sisters, Aloise Zavoy, Richmond, VA, and Charie Aponick and her husband, Attorney John, Shavertown; nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 12 noon at Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

Private interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
