Aileen Heck

Aileen Heck, 88, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Kingston Health Care Center.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 2, 1924, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ann Cunningham Austin.

Aileen was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School.

She served as a volunteer for many years at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Aileen was a member of St. Andrew's Parish, Wilkes-Barre, and a former member of St. Boniface Church, Wilkes-Barre.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harry J. Heck, in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, Michael and James Austin, and by her sisters, Sister Ann Marie Austin, RSM, Collette Bergstrasser, Theresa Lyons and Peggy Eckert.

Surviving are her sons, Harry Heck Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, Wilkes-Barre; Francis Heck and his wife, Karen, Kingston; and Michael Heck, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Wilcox and her husband, William, Dallas; daughter-in-law, Sandra Brislin, Wilkes-Barre; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sisters, Mary Hannon, Wilkes-Barre; and Betty McAvoy, Laurel, Md.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Andrew's Parish, 316 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Celtic Hospice, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704, or to the Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 301 Lake St., Dallas, PA 18612.
