Alberta L. Black

Alberta L. Black passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in her 90th year, at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Strish Peeler. She graduated from Swoyersville High School was their drum majorette.

She was married for 61 years to the late Harry Black. She and Harry raised a family of four children.

Alberta was active with her church and their Bible study groups. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Alberta had worked in retail sales. She was a devoted mother and loving wife.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, August Peeler, Mildred Peeler Toslin, Joseph Peeler, Ray Peeler and Gertrude Peeler DeLucca, and niece, Dolores Kozemko.

Alberta is survived by her loving children, JoAnn Salansky and her husband, Robert; Linda Lukas, Nebraska; Robert Black, Harrisburg; and Donald Black and his fiancee, Beth; sister-in-law, Kathleen Martinelli, Laflin; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Rev. Jim Alleman, rector of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Interment will be held in Mountain View Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
