Alfred Oeller, 91, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in the Inpatient Unit of Celtic Hospice at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 31, 1922, a son of the late Joseph and Madeline Meyers Oeller.
Alfred attended GAR Memorial High School.
He was an Army
veteran, serving during World War II
in the Philippine Theater, and was a longtime member of Hanover Township American Legion Post 609.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for many years by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Nardy's Television & Sound Systems in Plains Township, Viking Industries and Beltrami Industries.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy White Oeller, in 1994; his daughter, Sandra Jones; daughter-in-law, Sandra Oeller; grandson, Alfred (Buddy) Oeller; brothers, George, Joseph, Harry, Clarence and Donald Oeller; and sister, Margaret Vesek.
He is survived by his sons, Alfred Oeller, Plains Township; and William Oeller and his wife, Linda, Granbury, Texas; son-in-law, Stanley Jones, Sugar Run; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Oeller and his wife, Mary, Delaware; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Robert Thomas will officiate.
Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
