Ann Marie Cardone, RN, 82, of Kosciuszko Street, Nanticoke, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 14, 2014, at her home following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
A life-long resident of Nanticoke, she was born on April 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Filippi Incelli. She graduated from Nanticoke High School, Class of 1948, and continued her education at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre. She received her nursing diploma, graduating in 1952.
On Dec. 26, 1959, she married John J. Cardone at St. Francis of Assisi Church and together they soon made their home on Kosciuszko Street.
Ann Marie's main interest in life was caring for people and giving of herself to help others. In addition to raising her family, Ann Marie enjoyed a long career in nursing and was employed at the former Nanticoke State Hospital as an Operating Room Supervisor for 35 years.
Ann Marie was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, and had been a life-long member of St. Francis of Assisi Church until its closing. She was very dedicated to the church and all its functions including serving as a member of the cultural committee as well as the sewing committee for the Miracle of Bethlehem. At St. Francis, Ann Marie was on the Altar and Rosary Society. She also served as an Extraordinary Minister at both parishes as well as an adult altar server for many years. Socially, she was actively involved with her high school reunion committee and enjoyed memberships in several Pinochle card clubs. She also volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center in Nanticoke.
Her husband of 48 years, John J. Cardone, passed away on March 31, 2008.
Surviving is a son, Dr. John C. Cardone and wife, Melanie, Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter, Ann Marie Morris and husband, Thomas, Cinnaminson, N.J.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Cardone and Matthew and Megan Morris; a sister, Frances Pitcavage, Langhorne; a brother, Anthony Incelli and wife, Thelma, Levittown; a brother-in-law, Al Lenzini, Bloomsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin Monday, April 21, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish-St. Mary's Church (alternate site), 1030 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. James R. Nash as celebrant.
Entombment will follow in the Mary Mother of God Mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Misericordia University, 301 Lake St., Dallas, PA 18612, in memory of Ann Marie Cardone and will be used toward establishing a nursing scholarship in her honor.
