Audrey Hamlin Vogel

Audrey Hamlin Vogel, a longtime local music teacher, recently of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013. She was 81.

Audrey began her musical career as an organist and choir director in the Pittsburgh area and went on to teach (keyboard) music for more than 52 years—operating studios locally (before her 1996 retirement) in both Forty Fort and Dallas. She was a member of the National Piano Guild, the MTNA/PMTA (Pennsylvania Music Teachers), and the AGO (Organists' Guild). Additionally, Audrey was a charter member of SAI: "Sweet Adelines" in Wyoming Valley; active with "South Shore Sound" in Florida; a long-standing member of the "Kings Point Piano Quartet"; and an accomplished arranger of eight-hand music.

Born in Pittsburgh on Nov. 11, 1931, Audrey was the daughter of Vaun L. Hamlin and Nellie D. Hamlin, nee Strang. In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her son, Dale M. Strouphauer, and her brother, Vaun L. Hamlin Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John R. Vogel, Florida; son, Dr. David A. (Joyce) Hamlin, Langhorne; daughter, Dawn M. (Richard) Maurer, nee Strouphauer, Boca Raton, Fla.; granddaughters, Michelle (Enoc) Figueroa, nee Strouphauer, Largo, Fla.; and Lauren (Noel) Maurer Trew, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters-in-law and numerous nephews. Her extended family includes: stepsons, Eric (Sandra) Vogel, West Virginia; and Glenn (Sandy) Vogel, Florida; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Interment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, RD 5 Box 108 (Memorial Highway), Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation (, a charity that donates musical instruments to under-funded school music programs nationwide.
