Benjamin F. Phillips, 79, of Kingston passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Ben was the son of the late Attorney John C. Phillips and Catherine Williams Phillips. He was raised in the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre and later moved with his parents to Dallas. He also maintained a residence in Manhattan, New York City, N.Y., for many years.
Ben was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and Lafayette College. After college, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Army
. Following his enlistment, he was employed as a financial analyst by Dun & Bradstreet and later by Moody's Corp. in Manhattan, New York City, N.Y.
He was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Association as well as the Friends of Carnegie Hall. An avid fan of the opera, Ben frequently attended concerts at both Carnegie Hall and the Met.
Surviving are numerous cousins, including Stanley Davies, Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. The Rev. Don Hartshorne, pastor of Welsh Bethel Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, will officiate.
Interment will be made in Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.
Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
