Cassie M. Lopata

Cassie M. Lopata, 90, of Dupont died Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014, at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township. She was the widow of John S. Lopata, who passed away on Oct. 25, 1971.

She was born in Dupont on Nov. 27, 1923, daughter of the late John and Victoria Bryk Halat.

She was employed for many years in the area garment industry, having worked for Lackawanna Pants and Star Garments, both of Scranton, and Center Fashions, Dupont.

Cassie was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and its Women's Society, Dupont.

She had dedicated the last 58 years of her life to her son, Jimmy, and was devoted to her church and her family.

Her family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Gerald Gibbons and his staff and the staff at Wesley Village for their kind and considerate care.

Surviving are her sons, James and Robert, and daughter-in-law, Mary Jule, all of Dupont; grandsons, Jeffrey and Robert; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Orlinsky, Mary Wesolowski, Celia Boccardi and Theresa Halat, and brothers, Stanley, Frank, Walter, Edward, John and Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday from Lokuta-Zawacki Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
