Deborah (Debbie) Gwiazdowski

Deborah (Debbie) Gwiazdowski, 63, a true brave heart, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, in Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke, after a 2½-year battle with cancer.

Born in Nanticoke on Aug. 8, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Louis Coassolo and Anna Piershalski Coassolo.

A graduate of the Greater Nanticoke Area School District, Class of 1968, she was employed by the RCA Corp., Mountain Top. Afterward, she worked in the family insurance business with her husband, Ben Gwiazdowski, until her retirement.

Debbie was an avid golfer and a member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club Ladies Association for the past 19 years. She was an active member of Camp Bravehearts, an oncology camp for women, and a 21-year cancer survivor.

Surviving are her husband, Ben, Nanticoke; daughters, Amy Gwiazdowski and husband, Gregory Minchak, Washington, D.C.; Amanda Gwiazdowski and Michelle McGettigan, Hanover Township; and brother, Louis Coassolo and wife, Margaret, Barnesville.

Debbie will be deeply missed by her loving family, wonderful friends, and loyal dachshund, Gunther.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, main site (Holy Trinity Church), with the Rev. James Nash as celebrant.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later time.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
