Dorrance Sterling Hubbell Sr., 89, of Noxen passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Mr. Hubbell was born June 24, 1924, in Noxen, and was the son of the late Nelson and Blanche Jones Hubbell.
While serving in the American Campaign of the U.S. Navy
during World War II
, he received the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with one star.
Dorrance was employed by McDonald-Douglas Aircraft, Huntington Beach, Calif., for 20 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of various American Legions and Veterans of Foreign Wars
in California and Pennsylvania, Moose Lodge in Tunkhannock, the AMVETS of Hanover Township, a life member of the Douglas Elsie Gundal Rod and Gun Club of Wilford Heights, Calif., the Carson Clowners of Carson, Calif., and was a past member of the Elks.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Blanche Jones; sons, Andrew and Brian Hubbell; and brothers, Wayne, Virgil, Cecil, Clarence and Warren.
He is survived by his son, Dorrance Sterling Hubbell Jr., Hemet, Calif.; companion, Doris Mingus, Noxen; sister, Verna Day, Beaumont; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Noxen Bible Baptist Church, 3622 state Route 29 South, Noxen, with the Rev. Joel Mitchell officiating.
Interment will be in the Dymond section of Orcutt's Grove Cemetery, Monroe Township.
