Eileen A. Patla, 69, of Miners Mills lost her long courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Plymouth, daughter of the late James and Hannah Williams Schoonover. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School, and was employed for many years by Wyoming Valley Healthcare at the Saxton Pavilion. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Known as the "Queen" to her husband, family and close friends, Eileen loved to travel; and she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her high-school sweetheart, Frank, in Key West in 2012 before her illness. She was an avid collector of all things Betty Boop and antique kitchen utensils; she could be found at yard sales and flea markets all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Schoonover.
Besides her husband of 51 years, Frank, Eileen is survived by her sons, Frank Jr., Nanticoke; David, Edwardsville; and Michael, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Rebeccah, Miners Mills; five grandchildren; brothers, David, Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; Sam, Linwood, N.J.; and Jay, Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Diane Compton, Wilkes-Barre; Pat Trachietti, Florida; Mary Jane Jones, Florida; and Kim Kross, Plains Township; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday from Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerby Ave., Kingston. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
